Context:

Pesticides are in our air, water, and food.  They are in our schools, hospitals, and homes.  They are known to cause cancer, birth defects, nervous system disorders, reproductive problems, endocrine (hormone) disruption, and immune deficiency (http://www.watoxics.org/healthy-schools/pesticides-101/kids-health). According to a recent study 90% of people have pesticides in their bloodstream. 
 
The Washington Toxics Coalition has just launched its most ambitious campaign to date.  We are working to reform the chemical policies in Washington State, challenging our legislature to enact new laws to make sure that only the safest chemicals are allowed into our schools, food and products. 
 

Position Responsibilities: 

In 2008, the Research Intern will work closely with our Advocate and policy experts around the state to compile, design content, and market our IPM-Opedia project that uses cutting edge web 2.0 technologies.  IPM-Opedia will support our policy and on-the-ground education efforts to support green and organic gardening.

Qualified Candidates Should Be:

Responsible, self motivated, and good with time management.   Passionate about creating a healthier planet free of toxics chemicals.  A good writer and experience with gardening would be a plus. 
 

Length of Commitment 2-6 months

Hours Per week -2 Tracks:
 3-6 hours a week or
20-40 hours a week
