Girls on the BeachPlanned Giving

A planned gift to Washington Toxics Coalition is a powerful and thoughtful way to share your dedication to Washington's environmental health with future generations.

Bequests

One of the easiest ways to protect our environment is to leave a charitable bequest to Washington Toxics Coalition. A bequest is a gift to an individual, institution or charity from an individual's estate after the group has been named as a beneficiary in his or her will.

A bequest to Washington Toxics Coalition is free from federal and state taxes. The amount of the bequest is deducted from your estate total, offering substantial savings by decreasing the value of the estate subject to taxation. There is no limit to the amount of your estate that can be left to charitable organizations.

For gifts that take effect after your lifetime, we suggest you name Washington Toxics Coalition as follows: "...Washington Toxics Coalition, a nonprofit membership organization, incorporated by the laws of the State of Washington, having as its principal address 4649 Sunnyside Avenue North, Suite 540, Seattle, WA 98103."

Retirement Plans

You can name Washington Toxics Coalition as a beneficiary of your 401(k), IRA, or other retirement accounts. Gifts from pension plans are issued free of federal taxes.

Life Insurance

Life insurance policies allow several ways to give. You can donate a paid policy that you no longer need (smaller policies are often set up during child-raising years to provide support for spouses) by naming Washington Toxics Coalition as the beneficiary and policy owner. In return, you will receive an immediate tax deduction based on your cost basis in the policy, and it will reduce the value of your estate by the full face value of the policy, potentially reducing estate taxes. Upon your death, the life insurance proceeds will be passed on to Washington Toxics Coalition.

Questions?

We suggest that you involve a legal advisor in making changes to your estate. If you have any questions about how these gifts are accepted or used at Washington Toxics Coalition, please contact Lori Mudge, Development Director, at (206) 632-1545 ext 115 or email lmudge@watoxics.org. Thank you!

Workplace Giving

Workplace giving is a way for employees to donate to charitable organizations of their choice, primarily through payroll pledges. Donations through payroll pledges enable Washington Toxics Coalition to spend less time fundraising and more time working to protect our environment.

How to Give at Your Workplace:

  • Corporate Workplaces: If you work for one of many corporations that include Earth Share of Washington in your workplace giving campaign, find Earth Share of Washington on your payroll pledge form and write in Washington Toxics Coalition as a specific designation.
  • United Way Campaigns: If Washington Toxics Coalition is not listed by your employer in your workplace giving campaign, you can designate Washington Toxics Coalition in the "Specific Organization" or "donor option" section of your United Way pledge form. Ask your campaign coordinator how to do this if it is not clear.

Here are two ways you can give to Washington Toxics Coalition through your workplace giving campaign:

  • Payroll Deduction: By far the most popular and easiest way to support Washington Toxics Coalition year-round, you instruct your employer to deduct a certain amount from your paycheck each pay period.
  • One-time Payroll Deduction: Instruct your employer to deduct a single amount from one paycheck, or simply write a personal check to Washington Toxics Coalition and present it to your workplace giving campaign manager.

Washington Toxics Coalition is a member of Earth Share of Washington, an alliance of 65 leading conservation and environmental organizations. By partnering with businesses and government agencies, Earth Share of Washington inspires employees to support the environment through workplace giving campaigns and volunteerism. Corporate Matching Gifts Programs

These days, when many of us are looking to stretch our dollars as much as possible, keep in mind the potential for corporate matching when making contributions. Most large corporations and many smaller businesses maintain a matching gift program for cash donations and in-kind gifts. In the past year, with no more than a handful of participants, Washington Toxics Coalition has received more than $13,000 in corporate matching gifts.

The process couldn't be simpler: the donor fills out a form, and includes it with the donation. Upon receipt of the gift, we complete the form and return it to the corporation. In a few weeks we receive a check matching your gift. Most corporate programs will match your donation dollar for dollar, however some businesses will double, and a few will even triple, your gift. Ask your human resources director for information about the program where you work.
