Toy Industry Steps Up Pressure on Governor to Veto Bill.
Calls needed to the Governor Today!
Donât you think parents should have the basic right to know what toxic chemicals are in the products they buy for their kids? Seems like common sense , and thankfully the state legislature just passed a bill to require it.
However toy manufactures Mattel and Hasbro donât agree. And earlier this week the CEOâs of these two corporations flew to our state in a last ditch effort to kill the Childrenâs Safe Products Act.
This bill, passed last week by the state legislature, would ban lead, cadmium and phthalates in kids products. It also requires manufacturers to report on what other high hazard toxic chemicals they use in these products.
The CEOs met in person with Governor Gregoire to ask her to veto all or parts of the bill.
Call the Governor Today!
You can make a difference by calling the Governor today and urge her to stand up to these giant corporations and sign the bill as it was passed.
Please call the Governor: (360) 902-4111
Message:
Please Sign the Childrenâs Safe Product Act (HB 2647) into law as passed by the legislature. We have a right to know what toxic chemicals are used in kids products.
Background info:
Last week the Childrenâs Safe Product Act passed with bi-partisan support in the House (92-2) and the Senate (40-9) despite huge pressure from industry lobbyists. Now all we need is the Governorâs signature to make Washington a national leader in protecting children from toxic toys and other products.
The Governor has been very supportive of childrenâs health issues, signing the nationâs first ban on toxic flame retardants last year. We need to let her know there is lots of support from parents and others for the legislation and that Washington must remain a leader in protecting childrenâs health.
