Legislative Intern - Two Positions Available
Background: This coming we will be working to eliminate the toxic chemical bisphenol A (BPA) which is found in some baby bottles and food containers. In the Fall of 2009, the Legislative Intern will work closely with our policy experts and field organizer to educate citizens and mobilize them in support of our legislation to make children’s products free of toxic chemicals. Specifically the intern will assist with educating and mobilizing our supporters, doing outreach in key communities, and assisting with our lobbying strategy in the House and Senate.
Background: This coming we will be working to eliminate the toxic chemical bisphenol A (BPA) which is found in some baby bottles and food containers. BPA is a hormone-disrupting chemical that is linked to developmental effects in children, heart disease and diabetes in adults. It leaches out of products and can contaminate the environment and people especially children, who have the highest BPA levels.
Position responsibilities: In the Fall of 2009, the Legislative Intern will work closely with our policy experts and field organizer to educate citizens and mobilize them in support of our legislation to make children’s products free of toxic chemicals. Specifically the intern will assist with educating and mobilizing our supporters, doing outreach in key communities, and assisting with our lobbying strategy in the House and Senate.
Other responsibilities may include: Helping to set up presentations in key communities around the state, and tracking the involvement of legislators and our activists in our database.
Qualified candidates should be: Comfortable speaking on the phone and interacting with the public. Passionate about creating a healthier planet free of toxics chemicals. Interested in learning about these issues and sharing that knowledge with others. Good organizational skills and experience with databases a plus.
Length of Commitment 3-5 months
Starting Mid January- February
Hours Per week: 10-40
